Description: When love's no longer beautiful, a husband turns to his therapist.

Characters:

Patient: A charming, self-confident man in good physical shape. In his 40s.

Therapist: An attractive and articulate woman, also in her 40s. Reserved and a bit overweight.

Setting: A therapist’s office on the ground floor of a large pre-war apartment building on Central Park West in New York City. If there were a full set, it would include houseplants and cheerful framed prints, as if the office were trying too hard to make the patients feel at home. A sofa with lots of pillows, stage right, would face a desk and a rolling desk chair, stage left. There would be lots of diplomas and other framed documents on the wall above the desk and, on the opposite wall, a bookcase with stuffed animals on top.

The Time: Now--an afternoon.

Performance History:

    The Strawberry One-Act Festival.
The Session was a finalist at the Strawberry One-Act Festival Winter 2005 at the Bernie West Theatre, New York City, February 2005, where it made its world premiere with the following cast, in order of appearance:

    Therapist--Maria Volker.
The play was directed by Wendy Peace, assistant directed by Chuck Wagner, and featured the song, "Our Love Is Beautiful," by Jack Woodbridge.
